Hirayu Onsen is the oldest and most historical of the five hot spring resorts in Okuhida Onsengo.
Located at the foot of Mt. Norikura at an elevation of 1,250 meters above sea level in the Chubusangaku National Park, Hirayu Onsen is blessed with a rich, unspoiled natural environment. It also has high-quality hot springs with an abundant supply of spring water.
Within the hot spring resort are places such as Hirayu no Mori, which is perfect for day-trips,Hirayu no Yu, a public open-air bath that is available for a small fee, and footbaths that anyonecan use, making it an enjoyable place to visit.
More than 20 inns operate in the area, including modern inns, old-fashioned inns, business hotels, and simple guest houses, with plenty of restaurants and souvenir shops in their vicinity.
Hirayu Onsen is right by the Hirayu Interchange of the Chubu Jukan Expressway along with a large bus terminal servicing direct buses to Nagano, Shinjuku, Toyama and other destinations. With a restriction on privately owned cars in the area, a large parking lot transfers visitors to Mt.Norikura and Kamikochi, making it a hot spring resort that is set in a prime location with convenient transportation.
