Mukashibanashi-no-Sato (Folk Tale Village & Isurugi-no-yu) /Fukuji Kaseki-kan (Fossil Museum) /Fukuji Onsen Asaichi (Fukuji Onsen morning market)
Step into the Okuhida of the past in an old folk house where time passes slowly.
Mukashibanashi-no-Sato (Folk Tale Village) is an old folk house that recreates the rustic mountain village scenery of Hida. You can enjoy goheimochi (rice cakes) and Takayama ramen noodles around a traditional sunken hearth, and bathe in a natural indoor and open-air hot spring bath while gazing at the tranquil scenery at Isurugi-no-yu.
The Fukuji Kaseki-kan (Fossil Museum), also located within the park, displays many valuable fossils unearthed in Fukuji, an area that is home to some of the greatest number of fossils in Japan. Some of the oldest fossils in Japan and coral fossils are on display, and you will be amazed to learn that although Fukuji is located at an altitude of 1,000 meters, it was at the bottom of the sea around 400 million years ago.
The Fukuji Onsen Asaichi is a popular morning market where you can find seasonal and specialty foods from the local area. It has a nostalgic atmosphere with retro signs and vinyl records from the Showa era decorating the market.
